When the sound of our alphorns echoes back to us, it fills us with joy and contentment. It’s a wonderful feeling to send their music out into nature and hear the harmonious response. In these moments, we feel the power of the alphorn and the joy it brings us.
News from the Magden Alphorn Group
Swiss National Day is already behind us, and our performance at Reha Rheinfelden was a great success. We’d like to thank all the visitors and residents for a lovely evening and their warm applause.
On Sunday, August 16, our alphorn group had the pleasure of taking part in the traditional alphorn competition hosted by the North-West Switzerland Alphorn Association in Montpelon-Gänsbrunnen. The event took place in a beautiful, idyllic spot at the far end of the Jura valley. The relaxed atmosphere and meeting fellow alphorn players made it a truly special day.
We didn’t quite make it to the top this time, but we’re still very pleased with our solid performance. For the competition, we chose “Am Lenkerseeli” by Robert Oesch, a piece we already knew from a previous performance at a yodel festival. We once again thoroughly enjoyed performing this lovely piece together.
Our next highlights are just around the corner after the summer break: on September 6, 2026, we’ll be taking part in Ebenraintag.
On September 12, we’ll meet up with fellow alphorn players at the North-West Switzerland Alphorn Association gathering on Wasserfallen near Reigoldswil. Events like these are a lovely opportunity to make music together and keep in touch.
We’re especially looking forward to our group outing on September 18. Hanny Gysin has organized the trip and knows the area around Fiesch like the back of her hand. We’ll stay overnight in Fiesch, and from there we’ll head up into the mountains—perhaps to the Eggishorn, perhaps to Riederalp. The exact itinerary is still a little surprise. But we can already tell you this: if you hear alphorn music in Valais that weekend, chances are it’s coming from the Magden Alphorn Group.
Another regular date in our annual calendar is our performance marking the end of the season at the Brienz Rothorn Railway on October 25, 2026. We’re already looking forward to it.
And since anticipation is half the fun, we’re already looking ahead to 2027. We’re starting to think about which yodel festival we’ll take part in. The options are the festival on June 19, 2027, and the Western Switzerland Yodel Festival in Château-d'Oex from July 2 to 4, 2027. Of course, we’ll share the news as soon as we’ve made our decision.
We rehearse every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the community hall in Magden.
