The Magden Alphorn Group

The Magden Alphorn Group was founded in Magden in 1997. Urs Keigel took over leadership of the group in 2021. The group is a member of the Northwest Switzerland Alphorn Association. We regularly participate in alphorn competitions. The group operates without bylaws or a board. Our shared love of alphorn music makes this simple organizational structure possible. Today, the Magden Alphorn Group consists of 5-6 men and 3-4 women. We perform approximately 10 times a year, either as a group or in smaller ensembles (mostly as an alphorn trio).

Thanks to our well-established network, we can offer unique performances from a single source, combined with alphorn, a yodeling choir and, if required, also with impressive flag throwers.

These performances are usually played in the key of F sharp using 3.36 meter long alphorns.

The Magden Alphorn Group rehearses every Tuesday, currently at 6:30 p.m. in the community hall in Magden.

Magden is located in northwestern Switzerland, between Maisprach and Rheinfelden, approximately 20 km outside of Basel.

You can find lots of interesting and detailed information about the alphorn and its history on the pages of Hans-Jürg Sommer.
