The Magden Alphorn Group
The Magden Alphorn Group was founded in Magden in 1997. Since 2021, Urs Keigel, a local instructor, has led the Magden group. The group is a member of the Northwest Switzerland Alphorn Association and regularly participates in alphorn competitions.
The group operates without statutes or a board of directors. This allows for a simple organization.
Today, the Magden Alphorn Group consists of 6-5 men and 4-5 women. Throughout the year, we perform approximately 10 times as a group or in smaller ensembles (mostly as an alphorn trio). At these performances, we typically play in the key of F sharp on 3.36-meter-long alphorns.
The Magden Alphorn Group rehearses every Tuesday. Currently in the community hall in Magden, and in the summer, weather permitting, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the hunting lodge. Rehearsals for beginners are available by arrangement. Those interested are welcome to simply drop by.
Magden is located in northwestern Switzerland, between Rheinfelden, towards Buus and Maisprach, about 20 km outside Basel.
You can find lots of interesting and detailed information about the alphorn on Hans-Jürg Sommer's website.
